UC San Diego Women Add Sprint Strength With Another Verbal

Erin Schoenfeld from Orinda CA has verbally committed to join the UC San Diego Tritons in 2014-15.

A senior at Miramonte High School in Orinda, Schoenfeld specializes in sprint freestyle, backstroke and fly. At NCS in May 2013 (the North Coast Section of California high school swimming) Schoenfeld led off both Miramonte’s 200 relays with impressive speed. Her 26.7 back helped Miramonte finish third in the medley relay while her 23.8 leadoff in the 200 free relay helped position them into fourth place in a talented field.

Schoenfeld swims with Orinda Aquatics in Northern California. Her best short course times in the 50/100 free are 23.86/52.63 and she’s been 57.24 in the 100 back and 56.61 in the 100 fly. The back and fly both make UCSD’s top ten list, although it looks like a couple of new records have been added to the boards in each of the last several years.

“I chose UCSD because when I was on my recruiting trip I loved the team atmosphere. Everyone was really close and I could tell the coaches really cared about the swimmers. Academics are important to me and Matt and Corrie’s coaching philosophies are very supportive of athletics as well as academics.”

Schoenfeld is a member of USA Swimming’s Scholastic All-America Team and is planning to study Biomedical Engineering while at UCSD.
