Matt Crawford has been promoted to Head Coach of the men’s and women’s swimming teams. Crawford, the interim head coach since this past January, is in his first year in the program after being hired as an assistant.

“I believe Matt has the experience, proven leadership capacity and ability to foster a culture of compliance and success for the future of our men’s and women’s swimming and diving program,” said Director of Athletics Susan Harriman.

Crawford led the Banana Slugs to their best combined showing in years at the 2019 Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference meet. The men placed second and the women were ninth. In addition, diver Ethan Johnson qualified for the NCAA Regionals in Iowa.

Crawford, a former UC Davis swimmer, was a coach for the Davis Aquamonsters and Elk Grove Aquatics Club before coming to Santa Cruz.
