CHICAGO – Head Swimming Coach Jason Weber announced on Tuesday that Nicole Kaupp will join University of Chicago in a dual role as the new assistant swimming coach and assistant aquatics director.

“We are excited to be adding Nicole to our staff as her leadership skills and experience in coaching and aquatics set her apart form a very talented candidate pool,” Weber said. “During the interview process, it was clear that she could provide an immediate impact to all aspects of our team and aquatics program and help us continue our upward trend in Division III.”

Kaupp served as the Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Coach and Director of Aquatics at Luther College from 2016-19. Prior to that position, she was the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Coach and Assistant Aquatics Director at Washington University – St. Louis from 2009-16.

During her time at WashU, Kaupp helped guide some of the most successful teams and swimmers in school history, which included the following:

  • 41 All-Americans with 205 All-American honors
  • 5 NCAA National Champions
  • 3 NCAA record holders
  • 2 UAA Swimmers of the Year
  • 5 UAA Rookies of the Year
  • 81 school records
  • 2016 UAA Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year

Prior to WashU, Kaupp spent three years on the staff at Southwestern (Tex.), spending her first two seasons as an assistant before being elevated to interim head coach in 2009. In that year, she earned the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year award after the Pirates recorded their first NCAA Division III national qualifier in program history.

Kaupp, who has served on the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships Commitee from 2017-19, graduated from Lewis & Clark (Ore.) with a bachelor’s degree in history.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to join the Swimming & Diving program as well as the athletic department at the University of Chicago,” Kaupp said. “I am looking forward to working with Jason Weber and Becky Benson, the staff at UChicago, as well as being back in the UAA. I truly believe in the potential of the Swimming & Diving program, as well as Coach Weber’s leadership and can’t wait to get started.”
