UChicago Adds U.S. Open Qualifier Alex Schwartz For 2024-2025 Season

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Alex Schwartz has announced his commitment to continue his education and swimming career at the University of Chicago. Schwartz, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, is a recent graduate of Southlake Carroll High School in Texas, and will arrive in Illinois this fall for the 2024-2025 season.

“I’m super excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Chicago! I’d like to thank my parents, all my coaches, and my teammates for helping me along the way! I’d also like to thank Coach Weber for this amazing opportunity! Go Maroons!!”

Schwartz, who trains and competes year-round with Lakeside Aquatic Club, is a U.S. Open qualifier in the 400m free. He also has Winter Juniors cuts in the 200m free, 800m free, and 500, as well as is a Futures qualifier across the remaining freestyle and IM events.

Schwartz recently set a slew of personal best times at the Longhorn Elite meet this past May. He dropped over two seconds in the 400m free to post a 4:02.63 for 11th, while in the 200m he knocked over a second on his way to a 14th place finish (1:54.42). Rounding out his best time swims was the 100m free, where he stopped the clock at 52.96.

His most recent short course season was highlighted by Winter Juniors in December and the UIL 6A State Championship in the spring. At Winter Juniors, Schwartz recorded his top finish in the 500 at 16th, with a big personal best of 4:27.91 in prelims. He went on to earn 8th in that event at the UIL State Championships, hitting a 4:29.40 in finals.

Top SCY Times

  • 100 free – 46.07
  • 200 free – 1:39.08
  • 500 free – 4:27.91
  • 1650 free – 15:41.76
  • 200 IM – 1:50.93
  • 400 IM – 3:58.40

Under the direction of long-time coach Jason Weber, UChicago took 3rd as a team at both the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships and NCAA Division III Championships. Schwartz should have no problem making an impact for the Maroons at the conference level, with his best times in the 200, 500, 1650, and 400 IM all in the A-final range.

Marcell Milo-Sidlo led the team in the 500 this year with a season best of 4:28.96 from the NCAA Division III Championships. He was also the 2nd fastest in the 1650 (16:03.40) behind Isaac Kim, who clocked a 15:46.81 at their midseason invite. Both Milo-Sidlo and Kim will be on campus when Schwartz arrives this fall.

Schwartz is joined by Christopher Mo, John Butler, and Andrew Kim in UChicago’s incoming class of 2028.
