UConn Gets Backstroke Boost With Verbal From Georgia Apostolu

Georgia Apostolu is set to be a Husky next season, as she’s just given her verbal commitment to join the University of Connecticut women in the NCAA. Apostolu is a native of Pennsylvania, where she currently attends Springfield High School. Her club training base is with the Ridley Area YMCA team.

Last season, Apostolu qualified to swim the 100 back and 200 IM at the 2016 Pennsylvania AAA Girls State Championships. She finished in the top 16 of both races, picking up a 13th place finish in the 100 back and a 14th place finish in the 200 IM. During the long course portion of the season, Apostolu was a championship finalist at the 2016 YMCA Nationals, where she finished 8th in the 200 back and 11th in the 100 back.

Apostolu’s Top Times:

  • 100 back- 56.66
  • 200 back- 2:01.83
  • 200 IM- 2:06.68
  • 400 IM- 4:34.80

Apostolu should be an immediate asset for the Huskies at the American Athletic Conference Championships. Her times in the 100 back and 200 back are already fast enough to have scored in the B-final at 2016 AACs. Since backstroker Jaimie Lynn Brookover will be graduating at the end of this season, Apostolu may be taking on a medley relay position as well.

I have watched Georgia swim for many seasons since my daughter is a teammate of hers on both the Ridley YMCA and Springfield High School teams. Georgia is a beast in the pool but also a very sweet girl. You have a true asset coming to you!!!
