It’s official: former Triton standout Daniel Perdew is the new long-term leader of the UC San Diego Swimming & Diving program.
Perdew spent the past season as the men’s team’s interim head coach, but UCSD announced yesterday that it has elevated Perdew to Head Coach of the men’s swimming & diving program.
Perdew was a star swimmer for San Diego back in the late-2000s. He was a five-time NCAA Champion at the Division II level, and still owns the school’s 50 free and 100 free records, along with the 200 and 400 free relays.
He graduated the school in 2010, and re-joined the program as a coach one year later.
Perdew rose up fast through the coaching ranks at UCSD – he was promoted to become the team’s top assistant in 2013, and was named interim head coach last spring.
With the interim tag now removed, Perdew expressed his excitement for the new opportunity in the team’s press release.
“It is with great excitement that I accept the position of head men’s swim coach at UCSD,” said Perdew. “I want to thank (Director of Athletics) Earl Edwards, Ken Grosse, and the entire administration, for the confidence they have in me to lead this program. I am looking forward to continuing to push it to new heights while working with the outstanding student-athletes we have at UCSD.”
Congratulations, Coach Perdew!
