UIndy Picks Up Distance Specialist Casey Gannon (2023)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Casey Gannon has announced that she will be continuing her education and swimming career at the University of Indianapolis this upcoming fall. Gannon is wrapping up her senior year at Xavier High School, located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She shared her reasons for choosing UIndy with SwimSwam:

“I chose UIndy because of the team and coaching environment and it’s where I want to be to better myself for the next four years. Go hounds!!!”

Gannon trains and competes year-round with Linn-Mar Swim Team, and specializes in distance freestyle and IM events. She most recently competed at the Iowa Swimming Short Course State Championship, where she earned as high as 17th in the 400 IM (4:47.00). She also took 18th in the 1000 (11:01.04) and 20th in the 200 fly (2:19.86), with her 200 fly time marking a new personal best.

This past November, Gannon raced in the 500 free and 200 IM at the 2022 Iowa Girls State Championships. She placed 23rd in both races, swimming times of 5:24.96 and 2:15.70, respectively.

Top SCY Times:

  • 500 free – 5:18.09
  • 1000 free – 10:47.07
  • 1650 free – 18:10.95
  • 200 IM – 2:15.14
  • 400 IM – 4:40.10

The University of Indianapolis is a Division II program that competes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). The UIndy women recently made history with their first-ever GLVC Championship title, and went on to take place 2nd for the second year in a row at the 2023 NCAA Division II Championships.

Gannon is set to make an immediate impact at the conference level, as her personal best time in the 400 IM would have qualified her for the B-final at this year’s GLVC Championships. Additionally, she’s projected to score in the distance freestyle events, with her best 1000 and 1650 times projecting to 13th.

Senior Emilia Colti-Dumitrescu led the Hounds’ distance squad this year with times of 16:54.93 and 10:07.35 in the 1650 and 1000. Junior Brynhildur Traustadottir joined her under 17-minutes this season, clocking a 16:58.77 at NCAAs. For the 400 IM, fifth-year Kaitlyn McCoy led the team with a time of 4:19.66 at the GLVC Championships.

With her commitment, Gannon joins Indiana native Sydney Brandt and Michigan native Sophia Stutsman in UIndy’s incoming class of 2027. Brandt specializes in breaststroke events, while Stutsman focuses on fly and free.
