UIndy Women Earn Dominant Win Over Butler

INDIANAPOLIS—The nationally-ranked UIndy swimming & diving teams earned dual wins versus a pair of Division I’s on Saturday. The UIndy women swim team hosted crosstown Butler in a one-sided 202-91 win, while the Greyhound men and the divers took down former GLVC-rival Lindenwood, 172-128, at Indiana State.

VS. BUTLER
The Greyhounds dominated the visiting Bulldogs, winning 13 of 14 events on the afternoon. Andrea Gomez headlined the day with a B-cut time of 5:02:35 in the 500 free. The native of Pamplona, Spain later won the 200 free.

Celina Schmidt (100 breast, 200 IM) and Isabella Revstedt (100 free, 100 back) also won two individual events, as did newcomer Stefanie Markwardt (50 free, 200 breast)

UIndy’s A and B teams finished ahead of Butler’s best in both relays—the 200 medley and 200 free. Julia MagierowskaLeticia Vaselli and Markwardt contributed to both relay wins.

UIndy hosts Carson-Newman in two weeks, with the meet currently scheduled for Nov. 17-19.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler Swim team competed against UIndy on Saturday afternoon to open up the month of November. Olivia McKee was tabbed “Swimmer of the Meet” for the Bulldogs after winning the 200 Back with a time of 2:10.86.

“The team did an excellent job executing race strategies across the board,” Assistant Coach Allie Carmichael stated. “It was exciting to see such aggressive swims at this point in the season which shows how tough this team is. We are excited to take this energy into the House of Champions meet coming up.”

McKee posted consistent splits throughout the race in the 200 Back to record a BIG EAST Qualifying Time. Sophie Resner and Olivia Stotts also recorded season-best times in the event to finish third and fourth. Resner touched the wall at 2:18.98 and Stotts was close behind at 2:20.80.

BU had swimmers set BIG EAST Qualifying Times in the 200 IM and 200 Breast. Kate Schilling finished second overall in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.01. Season-best times in the event also went to Caroline Zimner (2:15.09) and Sadie Brown (2:18.70).

Schilling was also the top BU swimmer in the 200 Breast with a BIG EAST Qualifying Time of 2:27.84. It was her season-best time and 1.5 seconds off her personal best. Emily Landwehr also took part in the 200 Breast for the first time in her collegiate career. She placed fifth with a BIG EAST Qualifying Time of 2:32.07.

Elizabeth Naylor and Lauren Bergman finished back-to-back for BU in the 1000 Free. Naylor’s season-best time placed her third overall (11:17.48) and Bergman earned fourth (11:35.51) posting an impressive time given it was her first time swimming this event.

Butler took fourth, fifth and sixth in the 100 Back at UIndy. Gianna Leffler led the trio with a time of 1:00.61, a time that was two seconds faster than a year ago at this meet. Zimner was just .10 seconds off her season-best time at 1:01.44 and Jamie Gindorf set her season-best time at 1:02.77.

Alani Hightower-Bend and Emily Landwehr were the top BU performers in the 50 Free. Hightower-Bend recorded a BIG EAST Qualifying Time (25.06) for fourth place and Landwehr was just .30 off her season-best time for fifth (25.17).

In the 100 Free, Elizabeth Naylor finished fourth with a season-best time of 55.29. Grace Crane (57.55) and Sadie Brown (58.65) joined her in the event for the first time this season.

Crane, Resner, and Megan VanValkenburgh all swam in the 200 Free for the first time. Crane swam it in 2:02.99 (6th), Resner was right behind her at 2:03.24 (7th), and VanValkenburgh clocked in at 2:03.82 (9th).

Hightower-Bend returned to the pool for BU in the 100 Fly and placed fourth with a BIG EAST Qualifying Time (59.88). Lauren Bergman was also impressive in the event, taking with fifth with a BIG EAST Qualifying time of 1:00.44

In the 200 Fly, Sadie Brown had a season-best time (2:17.14) for fifth place and Lily Schwelgin came in sixth (2:21.25).

Season-best times were also set in the 500 Free. Sam Tonic took five seconds off her season-best time (5:30.21) to place fourth and Lydia Eberlein was fifth (5:46.99). Eberlein also placed fifth in the 100 Breast for BU (1:13.46) while Avery Piel took 6th (1:18.45).

The Bulldogs 200 Medley Relay Team recorded a time of 1:49.56. Leffler (backstroke / 27.97), Schilling (breaststroke / 31.24), Hightower-Bend (fly / 25.78), and Landwehr (free / 24.57) teamed up to post the time.

The ‘Dawgs used Bergman, Landwehr, Stotts and Hightower-Bend in the 200 Free Relay. This group posted a time of 1:40.90. Landwehr had the best split at 24.53.

Butler will take this weekend off in preparation for the three-day, House of Champions Meet hosted at IUPUI from Nov. 16-18.
