UK Junior International Swimmer Jack Smith Commits to Columbia University

Jack Smith, a junior international swimmer for Great Britain who is currently training in Dubai at Hamilton Aquatics, has committed to Columbia University’s class of 2019.

“I chose Columbia because it allows me the opportunity to fulfil all my aspirations both academically and athletically. It is an amazing school located in arguably the best city in the world and also has a swim programme that suits me perfectly.”

Smith previously trained and went to school at Millfield School in Somerset under head coach Jol Finck, training alongside James Guy.

Smith’s best times in long course meters are:

50m breast – 30.11
100m breast – 1:05.23
200m breast – 2:18.80

Smith’s converted times would put him approximately at 56.9/2:01.4, right about even with current Columbia freshman Joseph Lozano. The Lions’ only finalist in the 100 breast at the 2015 Ivy League Championships will have graduated, so Smith has the opportunity to make an impact from the onset.
