UMass Swimming and Diving top Binghamton

The Massachusetts women’s swimming & diving team built upon it’s 17-point lead from Friday and won eight of 12 events on Saturday for a 192-125 road victory over Binghamton at West Gym Pool.

UMass (2-1) rebounded from last week’s loss at BU with its fourth-consecutive win over Binghamton (0-1).

Sophomore Meriza Werenski remained perfect in eight races on the year, touching first in the 400 Individual Medley and 200 Breaststroke on Saturday. Both of her times were ahead of last week’s initial swims of the year in those events.

Senior Zoe Judd won the 200 Freestyle – for the first time in two tries this season – just ahead of senior Molly Smyth, freshman Emily Zimmermann and junior Katie Orr as the Minutewomen scored the maximum of 16 points. Judd also took silver in the 100 Free to go with Friday night’s runner-up finish in Friday’s 50 Free.

The duo of junior Rebecca Quirie and freshman Dasha Egkorova combined to collect the top two spots in the 100 and 200 Backstroke on Saturday. Quirie won the 100 for the second time in as many tries and Egkorova the 200 for her first collegiate victory.

Smyth and Orr took the top two spots on the podium in the 1000 Free to duplicate their effort in the 500 on Friday.

The Minutewomen swept the 1-meter diving with freshman Emma Roush claiming her first title of the year with a season-high 252.23. Senior Rhiannon Froman’s was second, with senior Rachel Dushman and sophomore Julia Jagannath third and fourth, respectively.

Junior Jocelyn Yuen also claimed a 9-point first place score with her finish in the 200 Butterfly.

UMass will returns home for it’s fourth meet of the season on Saturday, Nov. 8, when it faces Brown at 1 p.m. at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool inside Boyden Gymnasium. The meet will be Diving Senior Day for the team’s two divers, Dushman and Froman.
