HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the Colgate Invitational at the Lineberry Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen claimed the team scoring title with a score of 913 while the Minutemen took second with 949.
Two In A Row At Colgate
Today’s team win marked the second consecutive win for the Minutewomen at the Colgate Invitational. UMass won four individual events on the final day of competition and added 10 top-three marks.
Podium Sweep
The Minutewomen claimed a podium sweep in the 200 Back, led by Megan Mitchell’s winning time of 2:06.24. Lauren Stott finished as the runner-up with a swim of 2:08.42 while Bri Williams took third with a time of 2:09.91.
Fast Freshmen
Freshmen Joe Tonna and Sammy Quigg posted a one-two finish in the 100 Free for the Minutemen, led by Tonna’s swim of 47.66 while Quigg finished with a time of 48.01. The duo helped UMass end the day with a win in the 400 Free Relay, combining with Juan Montori and Eric Eastham to post the winning time of 3:09.01.
Diving Double
Emma Petrovich claimed the top spot in both diving events on the weekend after taking the 3-Meter Dive today with a score of 254.85 following a win on the 1-meter last night. Shreeya Sinha added a third-place finish for the Minutewomen while Andrew Bell scored 274.15 in the 1-Meter Dive to claim his second top-three finish of the weekend for the Minutemen.
Top Finishes
Beatriz Olivieri won her third individual event of the weekend with a top time of 5:01.87 in the 500 Free. Caroline Mahoney began the day with a win in the 100 Free to lead two Minutewomen in the top-three, clocking in a time of 53.30 with Maggie Desmond taking third. Olivia Mozoki finished as the runner-up in the 200 Breast with a swim of 2:28.41 with Summer Pierce rounding out the top three. Pierce also added a second-place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 58.10.
Jack Artis led two Minutemen in the top-three of the 200 Breast with a time of 2:12.51 while Sam Haddad placed second with a swim of 2:13.17. Wilson Dubois added a runner-up showing in the 500 Free with a swim of 4:49.96. Noah Witt (200 Back), Grant Beebe (100 Fly), and Jamie MacDonald (200 IM) each added third-place finishes on the day.
Next Up
UMass returns to the pool next weekend for two days of competition at the Boston College Invitational. The meet begins on Friday at 5 p.m. and continues on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior Maxwell Murray picked up a trio of event victories to help the St. Bonaventure University men’s swimming and diving team to a first-place finish to kick off the season at the two-day Colgate Invitational.
In the two-day invite, St. Bonaventure finished with a score of 1,177 ahead of UMass (949) and Colgate (477).
The meet was the first for the Bonnies men’s team under the leadership of new head coach Mike Smiechowski and assistant coach Ethan Dale and diving coach John Sirmon.
On Friday evening, Murray began the meet with a victory in the 1650 freestyle as he posted a time of 16:39.49, while teammate Mikolaj Synowiec placed third (16:57.02).
The third-year swimmer picked up his second event victory as Murray registered a time of 1:44.80 in the 200-freestyle. Alexander Behr (1:44.83) and Tomas Botero (1:45.24) finished second and third in the event as the Bonnies swept the podium.
Murray, a Penfield, N.Y. native, notched his third victory in the 500-freestyle, swimming a time of 4:43.06. He concluded his great start to the season with a second-place finish in the 200-IM (1:56.67).
Senior Nicholas Nakaya and sophomore Alexander Behr also earned two event victories for the Bonnies.
In the 100-breaststroke, Nakaya touched the wall in a time of 59.32, while swimming a time of 2:11.45 in the 200-breaststroke to pick up his second victory of the invite.
Behr won the 200-butterfly with a time of 1:52.57 and was victorious in the 100-butterfly, touching the wall in a time of 50.38. He also swam a time of 4:51.67 in the 500-freestyle to pick up a third-place finish.
Freshman Luigi Termine tied for first with fellow freshman Henry Wilkes with a time of 52.96 in the 100-backstroke. This marks the first collegiate victory for the pair of freshmen.
Termine picked up another victory in the 200-backstroke with a time of 1:55.38.
In the 50-freestyle, junior Kyle Gluck swam a time of 21.53 to earn a victory.
On the diving board, junior Lucas Dekaney was victorious in the 3-meter dive with a score of 316.25, while freshman Ben Giera picked up a pair of second-place finishes in the 1- and 3-meter dives.
The Bonnies received a pair of third-place finished from Synowiec in the 400-IM (4:22.08) and junior Patrick Heldreth in the 100-freestyle (48.33).
The 400-medley relay team of Termine, Nakaya, Behr, and freshman Boray Goren earned a victory with a time of 3:28.64, while the team of Wilkes, Heldreth, Knute Wargin, and Tommy White swam a time of 3:34.13 to place second.
Bona’s finished off Saturday with a second-place finish from the team of Behr, Heldreth, Gluck, and senior Griffin Witte in the 400-freestyle relay (3:11.49).
The Bonnies travel to Cleveland, Ohio to participate in the Cleveland State tri-meet on Saturday, Oct. 15. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
