UMBC Heads to Blacksburg for Virginia Tech Tri-Meet

Baltimore, Md.—The Retrievers got back to their winning ways with a pair of victories against George Washington last Saturday. The men won 132-115, while the women were 138.5-120.5 winners against the Colonials.

What: UMBC Swimming and Diving vs. Virginia Tech & Gardner-Webb

Where: Christiansburg Aquatic Center – Blacksburg, Va.

When: Saturday, Oct. 3112:00 p.m.

Last Time Out:

The UMBC swimming and diving team rolled to victories against George Washington on Saturday. The men won 132-115, while the women took a 138.5-120.5 victory.

Both the women and men kicked off the meet by winning the 200 medley relay. The women’s team of Lauren Day, Emily Escobedo, Amanda Day, and Kristie Langford continued their strong start to the season by touching in at 1:46.25. The men’s quartet of Nikola TrajkovicLeo EndresPhilip Adejumo and Gregor Spoerlein won with a time of 1:34.02.

The Retrievers bookended the meet with wins in the 400 free relay. The foursome of Escobedo, Frediani, Langford and Moro won with a time of 3:34.55. The men’s team of Sanchez, Yarberough, Vance and Spoerlein won in a time of 3:11.55.

The men took first in every race, with the women winning all their races except for one. For the Retriever men, it was their first team win, while the women earned their second victory of the season.

Last Year Against Gardner-Webb and Virginia Tech:

UMBC did not swim against the Hokies last year. The Retrievers swam against the Runnin’ Bulldogs at the CCSA North Invite last season. The Retrievers defeated Gardner-Webb head-to-head to help give Head Coach Chad Cradock his 200th career victory.

For the men, at the CCSA Championships, the Runnin’ Bulldogs finished in finished third just behind Incarnate Word in second place. The Retrievers took the 2015 CCSA Championship with 996 points, a full 200 points ahead of the Cardinals.

On the Horizon:

UMBC swimming and diving will return to Baltimore for a dual meet with Penn on November 7. The meet with the Quakers is set for 1:00 p.m. at the UMBC Aquatic Complex.
