UMBC’s Escobedo, Vermont’s Preston Earn America East Honors

BOSTON – New Hampshire and Vermont picked up wins last week over Central Conn. State and Siena, respectively, while UMBC split a tri-meet, beating Gardner Webb and falling to Virginia Tech. Maine and Binghamton were idle last week.

Here is more on the third weekly award winners of the season.

Swimmer of the Week
Emily Escobedo, UMBC – Jr., New Rochelle, N.Y.

  • Won three individual events against Virginia Tech and Gardner Webb. 
  • Took  the 100 breast (1:02.91), 200 breast (2:14.63) and 200 IM (2:04.33).
  • Surpassed the NCAA B-Cut qualifying standard in the 200 breast.
  • This is her third Swimming of the Week honor in four weeks this season.

Diver of the Week
Maggie Preston, Vermont – Sr., West Hartford, Conn.

  • For the third straight meet, Preston won both diving events for the Catamounts.
  • Claimed the 1-meter event with a score of 255.82 and won the 3-meter event with a total score of 229.72.

Notes

  • Vermont beat Siena, 180-110, on Saturday. 
  • Kelly Lennon took the 200 yard freestyle with her time of 1:53.75 and posted the fastest time (5:10.83) in the 500 free.
  • New Hampshire beat Central Conn. State, 158-142. 
  • Jessica Harper recorded the lead time in the 100-yard backstroke (58.79 seconds), 200-yard backstroke (2:07.10), 100-yard butterfly (58.07).
  • UMBC beat Gardner Webb, 170-130 and fell to Virginia Tech, 171-129.
  • Emily Escobedo won three events, including the 200-breaststroke and surpassed the NCAA B Qualifying standard.
