UNC Asheville Women’s Swimming Defeats North Florida

The UNC Asheville women took down North Florida this weekend, claiming a 152-110 victory. Asheville Sophomore Alejandra Sanchez set a new program record with a 2:09.49 in the 200 yard butterfly.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s swimming team picked up a CCSA dual meet win Saturday inside the Justice Center Pool, defeating North Florida 152-110. The Bulldogs claimed first in nine of 14 events. Asheville swept the top two spots in five events (200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke) including taking the all three top places in two events (100 breaststroke, 200 backstroke).

NOTES
-Sophomore Alejandra Sanchez set a new program record in the 200 yard butterfly (2:09.49) and finished second in the event. Sanchez also took first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:06.53). Through four dual meets this season, Sanchez has claimed first in six events.
-Freshman Morgan Rulevich collected three event wins Saturday, winning the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.95), 200 yard breaststroke (2:25.82), and the 200 yard individual medley (2:10.76). Through four dual meets this season, Rulevich has taken first in a team-high seven events.
– Junior Alexandra van Dorsten swam the fastest time in two events Saturday, winning the 100 yard freestyle (53.27) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.01).

-Sophomore Emily Werth and senior Alessandra Troncoso rounded out the individual event wins for Asheville. Werth claimed the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.12) while Troncoso took first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:08.06).

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The North Florida swim team fell to UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon, 152-110 in a Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association dual meet. Senior Amy Taylor was a triple-winner in the meet, winning three individual races.

Senior Amy Taylor continued her brilliant start to her 2015-16 season winning three events and was the lead-off leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay. She placed first in the 500 & 1000 freestyle with times of 5:09.83 and 10:37.55 respectively. She also touched first in the 200 butterfly with the ninth fastest time (2:06.59) in school history. In five meets this season she has put five new times on the program’s all-time top-10 list.

Sophomore Chase Walker was also an event-winner for the Ospreys as she took home first in the 50 freestyle. Her time of 24.97 was only .08 of her own team best time this season. She followed up the race with a second place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.96, a new season best and the second fastest by an Osprey this season.

In the last two events of the meet, freshmen Emily Draskovich and Lauren Kelso turned in second place finishes in the 100 butterfly and the 200 individual medley respectively. Kelso’s time of 2:14.13 nearly topped her season best time and was the second fastest on the team this season.

Taylor, freshman Nicole Nesto, senior Janie Kennedy and Walker all combined to win the 400 freestyle relay in the meet’s last event. Their time of 3:39.62 was also the second fastest by any North Florida relay combination this season

The Ospreys will look ahead to Nov. 19-22 where they will compete in the Florida Tech Invitational in Melbourne. Competition starts on Thursday Nov. 19 at 6:00 p.m.
