UNC Receives Verbal From Connecticut’s Brooke Perrotta

The University of North Carolina Tar Heels women’s team has picked up a swimming ace with the verbal commitment of Connecticut’s Brooke Perrotta.

Perrotta told SwimSwam, “I chose The University of North Carolina because of all the great opportunities the school has to offer. Not only does UNC have a fantastic academic program, but also a great, dedicated swim team. I felt so welcomed by all of the coaching staff and athletes. The enthusiasm and school spirit cannot be matched. Right when I stepped foot on campus, I felt at home. Can’t wait to be a Tar Heel!!”

Perrotta swims for the Cheshire Y Sea Dog Swim Club, and could swim more than a half-dozen different events at the collegiate level. Her strengths are breaststroke, butterfly and IM, but she also has the makings of a formidable sprint and middle-distance freestyler. She has 12 different junior national cuts (5 short course yards, 7 long course meters), which in and of itself, is enough to make coaches salivate. Add in her potential to swim on all five relays, and it becomes evident just how valuable of an addition she is for the Tar Heels.

Her best times are:

Event Time (SCY) Time (LCM)
100 Free  51.04  57.82
200 Free  1:49.96  2:07.27
100 Fly 54.33 1:01.76
200 Fly 1:59.94 2:15.93
100 Breast  1:01.73  1:12.86
200 Breast  2:20.26  2:45.66
200 IM 2:01.90 2:19.78
400 IM 4:21.16 5:00.96

Perrotta’s times would’ve ranked 5th in 200 Free, tied for 2nd in the 100 Breast, 4th in the 100 Fly and 5th in the 200 Fly on UNC’s list of top performers for the 2015-2016 season. She joins fellow UNC commits Caroline Hauder, Emma Cole, Emma Layton, Mary-Oliver Soule, and sisters Sydney Baker and Maddie Baker. Cole and Soule are both sub-2:00 200 fliers, while Hauder is also a 1:01 breaststroker.
