UNC Wilmington Celebrate Three Seniors in Meet Against Davidson

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW closed out its dual meet season and celebrated the careers of three seniors with an impressive sweep of visiting Davidson on Saturday in swimming and diving action at the Seahawk Natatorium.

The Seahawk men, who improved to 5-4 with the win, topped the Wildcats, 218-79, and the women raised their record to 4-8 following their 177-123 victory.

Competing in their final home meets of their career were Megan RobinsGianmichel D’Alessandro and Brent Hoshall.

Aidan DuffyHenderson Louviere and Nick Newis each won two events for the Seahawk men, who claimed 12 first-place finishes on the meet.

Duffy won bot the 200 Breaststroke and 200 IM and added a second-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke. Louviere, meanwhile, delivered a sweep in the 100 and 200 Butterflies.

Newis, a newcomer to the program, swept the boards on Friday in diving. He scored and impressive 312.60 points on the 3-meter board and recorded 297.83 on the 1-meter. In just two meets under his belt at the collegiate level, Newis has already qualified for the NCAA Zone B Regionals on both boards.

Brooke Knisely gave UNCW a pair of wins in the distance events, winning both the 500 and 1000 Freestyles.

Katie Knorr competed in three events and medaled in each. She won the 200 Backstroke, took second in the 200 IM and was third in the 100 Backstroke.

Trinity McNall won the women’s 3-meter board with a Zone qualifying score of 306.45 points. She will compete in both boards at the NCAA Zone B Regionals.

Also winning events for UNCW on the women’s side were Sarah Olson (50 Free), Tink Niebel (200 Free), and Gabby Perotti (200 Breast).

Silas Crosby (1000 Free), Kenneth Lowe (100 Free), Jacob Duracinsky (200 Free), Will Barker (100 Back), E’Likai Crompton-English (50 Free) and D’Alessandro (100 Breast) all landed in the win column for UNCW.

UNCW begins preparations this week for the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Championships later this month. The four-day event begins on Feb. 16 in Christiansburg, Va.

WILMINGTON — Shelby Stanley and Abby Francis won two events apiece to lead Davidson in the water against UNCW Friday and Saturday in the Wildcats’ final pre-championship competition.

Stanley, the reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, and Francis paced the Wildcat women, who fell 177-123 in the team scores. UNCW earned a 218-79 win in the men’s meet.

Stanley swam out front in the 100 fly (55.72) and 200 fly (2:03.35), while Francis won the 100 free (52.53) and 200 IM (2:06.33).

Additionally, Julia Goodhead won the 100 back in 57.82, and the Wildcats went 1-2 in two women’s events. Anna Newman took the 100 breast in 1:05.61, with Hannah Gould right behind her (1:06.13), while Anna Jepson won 1M diving (271.65), with teammate Annica Valmassei second (252.60).

The Davidson men won two events. Jeremy Kemp was first in the 200 back (1:51.47), and Ben McClain, the A-10 Performer of the Week, won the 500 free (4:38.92).

Divers competed Friday in Davidson’s Cannon Pool, with the majority of the meet held at UNCW Saturday.
