UNCW and James Madison Top Diving Events at CAA Championships

The diving portion of the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Championships concluded on Saturday in Newark, Delaware. After 4 events, UNCW claimed three golds and James Madison took home one. You can read our full preview of the meet here.

UNCW sophomore Kolbein Bjugan defended his 2020 CAA titles on both one-meter and three-meter, finishing 1st with 306.90 points and 332.85 points, respectively. On one-meter, he outscored his 2020 performance by 21.45 points while Towson’s Will Canny and Ajani Dorner took 2nd and 3rd place with 278.60 and 254.70 points, respectively. This was Canny’s second season scoring 2nd place in the event.

On three-meter, the podium looked identical to the men’s one-meter results from Friday with Towson’s Canny and Dorner finishing in 2nd and 3rd place with 305 and 237.95 points, respectively.

James Madison senior Emily Gross won the three-meter event with 297.90 points, outscoring second-place-finisher Courtney Klausen from UNCW by about 11 points. Gross’ teammate Sarah Stim snagged 3rd place with 276.75 points, repeating her 3rd place finish from last year.

On Saturday, Klausen took home gold in the one-meter event with a score of 282.20 points to second-place-finisher Lindsey Hammar from Duke’s 265.90 points. Last season, Klausen had tied for 1st in this event as a freshman with Gross who took 3rd place on Saturday with a total of 263.35 points.

Women’s swimming will run from Monday to Wednesday where James Madison looks to defend their 2020 CAA Championships title. Men’s swimming will kick off Thursday going through Sunday, where William and Mary, after being hit with team cuts and then being reinstated in November, is aiming to defend their 2020 Championship title.
