WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW’s women’s team held off a late charge by Davidson while the Seahawk men thumped the Wildcats to finish off a non-conference swimming and diving meet sweep on Saturday at the Seahawk Natatorium.

The Seahawks improved to 2-6 on the women’s side while the men evened their record at 3-3. Davidson, meanwhile, dipped to 3-5 and 1-5.

UNCW’s women’s team held an 85-65 lead through eight events, but the Wildcats won five straight events to pull to within 130-115, but the Seahawks finished 1-2-3 in the 1-meter board keep the Wildcats at bay.

Freshman Courtney Klausen won both boards, scoring 265.58 and 275.63 points in the 1 and 3-meter boards, respectively, for UNCW.

Evan Arsenault, a junior, earned wins in the 100 and 200 Freestyles.

The Seahawk men won the first 10 events in building a 154-51 lead. Senior Will Countie earned a pair of wins in the 100 and 200 Backstrokes during that stretch which saw eight different Seahawks win an event.

Sophomore Aidan Snively posted a pair of wins in the 500 and 1000 Freestyles.

On the men’s side, freshman Kolbein Bjugan also won both boards with 290.4 in the 1-meter and 305,03 in the 3-meter.

Other event winners Lacy Phillips (1000 Free), Jack Cosgrove (200 Free), Mary Grace Copeland (100 Back), Faith Pilcher (50 Free), Gianmichael D’Alessandro (100 Breast), Thomas McGovern (50 Free), Sean Cannon (100 Free), Josh Rigsbee (200 Breast), Noah Cahan (100 Fly) and Brent Hoshall (400 IM).

The Seahawks close out the regular season at the South Carolina College Invitational in Columbia, S.C. The two-day event begins on Jan. 24 and includes Wingate, Queens and the host Gamecocks.

WILMINGTON — Sarah Helen Shepherd won three individual events, and contributed to a relay win, as the Davidson swimming and diving teams returned to competition Saturday at UNC Wilmington.

Shepherd took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.83), the 200 backstroke (2:04.18) and the 400 individual medley (4:29.28) to help the Wildcat women keep it close with the Seahawks, who ultimately posted a 164-136 win.

Shepherd also joined Julia Goodhead, Shelby Stanley and Abby Francis on the winning 200 medley relay (1:47.25).

Stanley posted two wins, sweeping the butterfly events. She won the 100 fly in 56.06 and the 200 fly in 2:06.52 and also finished second to Shepherd in the 400 IM.

Siena Senn won the 500 free in 5:08.64, and Hannah Gould touched the wall first in the 200 breast (2:25.33), while also following Shepherd in a 1-2 Wildcat finish in the 100 breast.

Brian Hynes finished tied for first in the 500 free with a time of 4:42.14 to highlight the Davidson men’s performance, while Daniel Valmassei finished second among six divers in both the 1- and 3-meter events.

UNCW earned a 206.5-89.5 win in men’s scoring.
