OMAHA, Neb.—The University of Northern Iowa women’s swimming and diving team narrowly defeated Nebraska-Omaha this evening, 157-143.
Madison Rinaldi swam just over a minute in the 100 backstroke, taking first place in the event. Rinaldi timed in at one minute and one-hundredth of a second. Rinaldi would take first place in the 200 backstroke, swimming a 2:09.86.
Katie Taylor took first place in the 50 freestyle, swimming a 24.29. Taylor timed in at 2:22.57 in the 200 breaststroke for first place. Taylor would have her third first-place finish of the evening, swimming into first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.85.
Moriah Ross timed in at 1:05.03 in the 100 breaststroke for first place.
Crystal Florman took first place in the 100 freestyle, timing in at 52.48.
Kylie Engstrom swam a 5:12.22 in the 500 freestyle, swimming into first place.
The Panthers team of Taylor, Ross, Lauren Havertape, and Florman took first place in the 200 medley relay, timing in at 1:46.12. Florman, Ross, Havertape, and Abby Meyer took first place in the 200 freestyle relay, swimming a 1:37.55
Jordan McCullough swam a 10:51.61 in the 1000 freestyle, coming in second place. McCullough swam a 2:11.49 in the 200 backstroke for second place.
Florman took second in the 200 freestyle, followed by teammate Kylie Engstrom in third. Florman timed in at 1:55.33 and Engstrom timed in at 1:57.77.
Ross and Meyer took third and fifth in the 100 freestyle, swimming a 54.49 and 56.06 respectively.
Rachelle Houlette timed in a 2:15.82 in the 200 butterfly for third place. Kelsey Ostrowski followed in fourth place, swimming a 2:16.90.
Alivia Soares timed in a 2:31.21 in the 200 breaststroke, swimming into third place.
Rinaldi swam into third place in the 200 IM, swimming a 2:13.94.
Lauren Vilims swam a 11:02.85 in the 1000 freestyle for fourth place. Sam Galvin swam into fifth place in the 1000 freestyle, timing in at 11:13.58.
Anika Lillegard-Bouton took fourth in the 500 freestyle, swimming a 5:18.45.
Ashleigh Houlette and Lauren Kacmarynski took fifth and sixth in the event, swimming a 25.89 and 25.96 respectively.
Houlette (R.) would lead the Panthers in the 100 butterfly, swimming a 1:00.87 for fourth place. Ostrowski swam a 1:02.92 and Emma Bartlein swam a 1:03.94 for fifth and sixth places in the event.
Diving
In the diving well, Jayden Lovell finished in fourth place on the 1-meter boards, with a dive score of 220.72. Madison Schoppe made her debut as a Panther, diving a 176.47.
On the 3-meter boards, Lovell took third place with a dive score of 226.12. Schoppe dove into fourth place, with a dive score of 208.27.

OMAHA, Neb. – Annika Clinton and Madeline Taylor qualified for the NCAA Diving Zone cuts in the 1-meter dive Friday afternoon against Northern Iowa at home.
The Mavericks fell 157-143 to Northern Iowa, but saw some individual marquee performances.
Clinton won the event and totaled a 1-meter dive score of 272.40 while Taylor finished runner-up and tallied a 267.89 total score. To qualify, an athlete must record a score of 265 or better event. Jacquelyn Gaworski finished third behind her teammates with a score of 254.69.
“I was very happy with many of our performances tonight,” said head coach Todd Samland. “We won some races and had incredible diving. Our diving stole the show tonight with Annika Clinton and Madeline Taylor making Diving Zone Cuts, while Jacquelyn Gaworski was close to getting the cut as well. Hats off to Northern Iowa who came in with some big performances and big relay swims to take the meet.”
In the 3-meter dive, Gaworski and Clinton finished first and second with totals of 233.10 and 226.73, respectively.
Lauryn Schieffer won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:44.85, while Rachel Morrow took home a victory in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:54.57. Grete Baker and Rebecca Martini finished in the top-2 spots with times of 2:13.04 and 2:14.05 in the 200-yard butterfly.
In the 100-yard butterfly, the trio of Kylene Abraham (59.52), Bethany Gatlin (59.86) and Baker (1:00.11) rounded out the top-3 spots for the event.
Omaha returns to action Monday, Oct. 15 at noon. The team travels to USAF Academy, Colo., to take on Air Force in a dual meet.
