On Tuesday morning, University of Iowa head coach Marc Long announced that UI Alum, Richard Salhus, will be joining the UI coaching staff as interim assistant coach.
The former Hawkeye swimmer will be joining the University of Iowa‘s Swim and Dive program after five years of serving as assistant head coach of the Iowa Flyers Swim Club, where he was recently named head coach. During his time with the Flyers, Salhus led the team to a number of achievements. He coached a fourth place finisher in the 200 m butterfly at the U.S. Olympic Trials, was a 2014 National Select Camp assistant coach, and he coached multiple Winter and Summer junior national medalists.
In an Iowa press release, head coach Marc Long said that the Hawkeye’s are “thrilled to have Richard join [their] staff” and that “he is a dedicated, committed, and well-respected coach with excellent results. It is also exciting to have a former swimmer rejoin the program.”
“I would like to thank Marc Long, the swimming and diving staff and the University of Iowa athletics department for this tremendous opportunity,” said Salhus. “Being a former Hawkeye, this is an honor and dream come to true to return to my alma mater to represent the University of Iowa and its stellar swimming and diving program in a coaching capacity.”
