Lynchburg, Va. — University of Lynchburg athletics and director of men’s and women’s swimming Brad Dunn are thrilled to announce the Hornets’ 2021 meet schedule, headlined by the news that Lynchburg will play host to the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships March 5-7 at the Liberty Natatorium.

The central location of Lynchburg within the ODAC was a key factor for the decision to hold the championships in the Hill City, reducing travel costs and the necessity for overnight accommodations as the league seeks to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic safely.

It will mark the first time since 2011 that the ODAC will not hold its swimming championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, but the quality of the meet environment will certainly not suffer. Opened in 2017, the Liberty Natatorium is a state-of-the-art, 75,000-square-foot with water and air quality systems unparalleled in the Commonwealth.

Lynchburg’s swim teams will work up to the ODAC championships with six regular-season meets. Four of those will be at home, including the January 13 season-opening dual with conference rival Virginia Wesleyan. Bridgewater, Roanoke, Emory & Henry, and Southern Virginia will also pay visits to Lynchburg during the regular season.

Lynchburg looks to build on an historic inaugural season in 2019-20 that saw both the men’s and women’s sides finish fourth at the conference meet. The teams combined for a 17-4 dual-meet record in that first season and return seven All-ODAC performers from a year ago.

All Lynchburg athletics schedules set for Spring 2021 are subject to change as ODAC and NCAA regulations and guidance surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic evolve, with student-athlete safety at the forefront of the decision-making process. Lynchburg and its opponents are committed to effective precautionary measures — including rapid-result testing, face coverings, and social distancing — to ensure the highest degree of athlete, staff, and game official safety.

Lynchburg will make a determination on spectator policies in January and will distribute that information at that time.

The Lynchburg Hornets Sports Network will continue to provide the most comprehensive webcasting coverage in NCAA Division III throughout the winter and spring seasons.
