TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s and women’s swimming teams hosted Eastern Illinois University in a rain-soaked dual meet on Saturday in the first event of the New Year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The meet totaled 20 events, including 10 for the men and 10 for the women.
  • Tampa’s women took first in seven of the races as EIU took the lone relay race.
  • The Spartan men took nine first-place finishes, including the lone relay.

TAMPA, Fla. – The Eastern Illinois men’s & women’s swimming teams kicked off the New Year in Tampa, Fla., facing off against the Spartans of The University of Tampa in a dual meet. The men fell to Tampa 58-126, while the women lost 69-116.

The men’s unit had a strong showing all throughout the meet. Scott House continued where he left in the 50-free placing second with a time of 21.90. In the 100-free House placed second with a time of 49.35. Griffin Lewis was right behind him in third with a time of 51.66.

Other top three finishers were, Forrest Baumgartner in the 50-back, he placed third with a time of 25.49. Alex Adams placed third in the 100-fly with a time of 54.32. In the 100-back Andrew Crouse placed second with a time of 55.21, right behind him in third place was Ethan Dolan with a time of 57.38.

In the men’s 100-breast, Jarod Farrow placed second with a time of 1:03.65. Race Archibald placed third with a time of 1:04.65. In the 500-free, Chris Dixon swam his way to second with a time of 5:02.93. Austin Kueck placed third with a time of 5:03.00.

In the 200-medley relay, the Panthers first team placed third with a time of 1:38.83.

On the women’s side, Sabrina Chu kicked off the New Year with a first-place finish in the 200-free with a time of 2:00.26. Ashley Glesing placed first in the 100-breast with a time of 1:09.89.

Other top three finishers were, Sarah Lohman in the 50-back as she placed third with a time of 29.53. Lohman also placed second in the 100-back with a time of 1:03.92. Matti Friesz placed third behind Lohman with a time of 1:04.44.

Gloria Gonzalez placed third in the 100-breast with a time of 1:17.34. To cap off the individual events for the women, Jessica Harris place second in the 500-free with a time of 5:36.06. Grace Hamrick was less than a second behind her finishing in third with a time of 5:36.75.

In the 200-medley relay the Panthers “A” team placed first with a time of 1:53.59.

The EIU men’s & women’s swimming teams will return to action in Valparaiso, Ind. on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 1 p.m.
