LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will open Jim Reitz Pool to fans at home-opening meets for the first time in two years when they host BYU and Utah this weekend. Spectators interested in attending will be required to wear a mask upon entering the facility.
The Rebels’ men’s and women’s squads will each take on the Cougars Friday at 5 p.m. PT/6 p.m. MT. Meanwhile, the Scarlet and Gray’s men’s side face a quick turnaround for their Saturday matchup with the Utes from the Pac-12 at 10 a.m. PT/11 a.m. MT.
Returning from a two-week break from competition, the Rebel women bring several of the Mountain West’s fastest times and three swimmers atop the MW chart in multiple events this season into their dual. Among that group, super senior Kate Afanasyeva leads the MW in the 50 back (24.57) and 100 back (52.98), while seniors Gabby Lizzul’s 200 fly (1:59.66), 400 IM (4:20.61) and 500 free (4:54.47), and Kristina Schneider’s 50 free (23.01) and 100 free (50.92) rank first in the conference.
Following their Scarlet and Gray counterparts, UNLV’s men continue to hold many of the WAC’s top times this season with a trio of swimmers boasting the fastest marks in multiple specialties. Junior Panos Bolanos’ 50 back (22.11), 100 back (47.48) and 200 back (1:44.01), junior Cam Castro’s 1000 free (9:27.01) and 1650 free (15:16.14) and freshman Dominik Bujak’s 200 IM (1:48.79) and 400 IM (3:50.58) marks make up that list.
