When we spoke with Peter Andrew a week ago, the father and coach of National Age Group record-breaker Michael Andrew, he brought up that there was a possibility of the family moving to Australia. They are South African nationals and though they have lived here for years, they were still fighting through some immigration issues. We have an update on their situation.
We just received news from Tina Andrew, Michael’s mom, that the family has received their Permanent Residency status, and can thus remain in the United States indefinitely, which is what they intend to do. The immediate plan is to remain in Lawrence, Kansas for the foreseeable future. Lawrence High boy’s swimming coach Kent McDonald will surely be overjoyed at the news.
Michael has a long way and many races to swim before he gets there, but this means that he will likely compete for the United States, if he advances to international-level competition.
USA’s historic best when they were 11, 12, 13 and 14 years old. Does an exceptional 12 year old have a head start on his competitors who are not ranked as well? Does the 14 year old who is not a highly ranked swimmer stand a chance of overcoming his competitors, to eventually vault into a top-ranked position?
Out of 14 possible events, there are 350 possible slots in which athletes are ranked (14 events plus 25 rankings = 350 slots). Here are the results:

Interesting…. 12 yr old ( 6 ft +) records in 50 SCY.. is that how World Stage is measured?
50 SCY is not exactly Olympic event..hope he keeps growing.
