UPDATED: Last Minute Qualifiers from Juniors, YMCA’s Added to August 2nd Nationals Psych Sheets

The latest round of updates to the psych sheets for the 2014 U.S. National Championships don’t carry nearly the same heavyweight name as Melanie Margalis, who made an event swap in Friday’s version.

See the August 2nd update here.

There are, however, some new additions from swimmers that have been performing well in the last week at the USA Swimming Junior National Championship and the YMCA National Championship meets.

  • Astrid Swensen is the first addition, though she doesn’t fit in the category above. The YMCA of the North Shore swimmer is entered with a 1:57.87 200 yard fly, making her the 69th seed, as all yards times are seeded below meters times. While her yards swimming has been very good in 2014, her best in the long course fly (2:16.38) doesn’t yet hit the Nationals standard. That best time came when she was just 14, and last week at YMCA Nationals she was a 2:18.89, so she’ll be shooting for an improved placing.
  • 17-year old Matthew Grauslys from Executive Swim Club has added swims in the 200 fly (31st – 2:00.89), 50 fly (37th) and 100 fly (54.71). That means he’ll be extending his vacation from Junior Nationals, which is where this week he hit qualifying times for all three. That was a 2:00.89 in the 200 fly, under the 2:02.79 standard; and a 54.71 in the 100 fly, under the 54.79 standard.
  • The country’s newest National Age Group Record breaker Max Irwin has added the 200 fly to his schedule. He was already entered in the 50 fly, the 100 fly, and the 400 free. Irwin led off the Indiana University Swim Team’s record-breaking 800 free relay on Friday. Prior to Junior Nationals, Irwin didn’t have the cut for the 200 fly, but he did have the 18 & under bonus cut, so he could have swum it anyway. He’s now seeded 39th in a 2:01.48.
  • 17-year old Michael Messner from the Santa Clara Swim Club has entered the meet in the 400 IM, the 400 free, and the 200 fly. He just hit his Nationals standard in the 400 IM this week at Juniors, swimming a 4:24.58; the same goes with a 3:56.07 in the 400 free. He’ll swim the 200 fly as his 18 & under “bonus” event.
  • Jacob Limaldi, another 17-year old from the Ocean County YMCA in New Jersey, is also a brand new entry to the meet. He’ll swim the 50, 100, and 200 breaststrokes. He is tied for the 57th seed in 2:19.31, which means tied for the last seed that was faster than the long course standard.
