Updated Worlds Trials Psychs Include Kevin Cordes

2017 U.S. NATIONALS/WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TRIALS

When the psych sheets initially came out for the 2017 U.S. Worlds Trials this week, 2016 Olympian Kevin Cordes was notably missing. After confirming with USA Swimming that he was actually in the meet, new psychs have been released, with his name on them.

NEW PSYCH SHEETS!

As expected, Cordes is in prime position to make the Worlds team in multiple events. He’s entered in the three breaststrokes, and is seeded 2nd in all three. He’s the American record holder in the 50m breast, and competed for the US last summer in Rio in the 100 and 200 breast.

Meanwhile, breaststroker Emily Escobedo doesn’t appear on the new psychs, either. She wasn’t on the original psychs, but the NCAA mid-major standout and UMBC alumna looked to have a good shot at finaling, at least, in some of the breaststroke events.

Some commenters were curious to see if Claire Tuggle might make an appearance in Indy after smashing two very old 11-12 NAG records this past weekend in the 200 and 400 free. We checked the psychs, and it looks like she won’t be attending the meet. Still, her 200 free time of 2:02.21 does clear the qualifying standard.

There weren’t any other wrinkles in the psychs that stood out from a quick look-through– let us know in the comments if we missed anything!

HMC–

Good catch. She wasn’t on the originals either, actually. Noted in the article above.

Is this Emma Schoettmer’s first meet since OTs? I had assumed she’d retired

Found results from her in a meet on meet mobile 89th Ohio Valley Championships June 8-10. 2:42 in 200 breast, yikes.

Wallaby –

She actually swam at the Indy PSS in March and the Ohio Valley Champs a few weeks ago. Her best times since Omaha are 1:12 and 2:38.

She’s from Indiana, and trained with Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics when she was at Zona. This spring she’s represented Lakeside (KY) and will be with them in Indy.

Thanks! Hope she’s faster than a 2:38 200 breaststroke. I’ve heard of 11-12 year olds going faster than that

Were all the Auburn swimmers left off or just Kevin in the original start list? Their other swimmers aren’t high enough seeds to notice 🙁

Just checked through both of them. The same Auburn swimmers are on the old and new psychs– on the new ones, Cordes is listed as Unattached. So they were not left off the original psych, just Kevin.
