Upper Arlington’s Avery Catalano Commits to Miami (OH)

Upper Arlington High School senior Avery Catalano has verbally committed to swim at Miami University in Ohio. The sprinter, who swims club at Upper Arlington Swim Club, will join Miami’s class of 2026.

“I am very excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at Miami University! Huge thanks to my family, coaches, friends and teammates who made this happen. I can’t wait to be a part of this team!”

At the 2021 Central, East & Southeast District Meet in Ohio, Catalano placed fourth in the 100 and 200 freestyle. She also won second place in the 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter breaststroke, and 100 meter freestyle at the Ohio Swimming Long Course Summer Challenge. Catalano has Futures cuts in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and the 100 breaststroke. Her best short course times are:

• 50 freestyle: 23.91
• 100 freestyle: 51.41
• 100 breaststroke: 1:04.85
• 200 freestyle: 1:51.52

Miami University is a Division I school in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). At the 2021 MAC women’s swimming and diving championships, Miami University placed third out of eight teams. At the meet and with her best times, Catalano would have made B finals in the 100 and 200 freestyle.

Catalano will join Jenna Halliday and Madison Saldanha in fall 2022.
