U.S. And Aussies Hold Steady In World Junior Championships Medal Table Through Day 3

A total of 15 nations now hold a position within the swimming medal table through day three of the 2023 World Junior Championships.

The United States maintained its overall lead once again, adding gold and silver in the girls’ 200m backstroke. Teagan O’Dell topped the event’s podium in a time of 2:08.09 while teammate JoJo Ramey made it a 1-2 finish in a runner-up result of 2:10.18.

All told, the U.S. has accumulated 15 pieces of hardware with 8 golds, 3 silvers and 4 bronze.

Australia had a strong night, however, with Olivia Wunsch (53.71) and Milla Jansen (54.08) taking the top two spots in the girls’ 100m free while the nation also bagged bronze in the 200m back, courtesy of Bella Grant (2:11.24). To cap off their night, the Aussies produced a new World Junior Record en route to gold in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay.

Both Denmark and Austria got on the board by way of the boys’ 100m butterfly. European Junior Championships gold medalist Casper Puggaard of the former nation reaped gold in 52.30 while Lukas Edl of the latter earned bronze in 52.68. In between was China’s Wang Xizhe, who turned in a time of 52.65 to give his country of China its 2nd medal of these championships.

China’s  Zhang Zhanshuo then added bronze in the boys’ 800m free.

Turkey was a new addition to the medal table on day three in that 8fee race, as 16-year-old Kuzey Tuncelli ripped a time of 7:48.75 to deny Bulgarian Petar Mitsin another gold.
