US Naval Academy Secures Verbal from 2021 Summer Juniors Qualifier Nate Gaver

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Nate Gaver of Reynoldsburg, OH has announced his decision to continue his academic and athletic careers at the United States Naval Academy beginning in the fall of 2021. He has been swimming for the Greater Columbus Swim Team of Ohio for 13 years, where he now trains under the direction of Coach Chris Binting. Gaver is in his final year at Reynoldsburg High School.

Looking forward to 4 years at the United States Naval Academy and a lifetime of service to our country. Thank you to GCSTO and Reynoldsburg coaches and teammates. Thank you to my Mom, Dad, brother and sisters (Dru, Acadia and Araceli) as well as grandparents, Nanny, aunts, uncles and everyone else for supporting me. Go Navy! Beat Army!!

Gaver is a five-time Ohio High School DI State Championships finalist. In 2021, he finished third in the 50 free, going a personal best time of 20.36, and he was 7th in the 100 breast. Junior year, he swam the 50 and 100 free, finishing 7th in both races, and sophomore year he was 14th in the 50 free.

In December of 2019, Gaver competed at the East Speedo Winter Junior Championships. He swam the 50 and 100 free, touching 67th and 66th, respectively. He currently has 2021 Summer Winter Juniors cuts in the 50-meter and the 50-yard free. He earned the 50-yard free cut at the 2021 Ohio DI State Champs, while he secured the cut in the 50-meter free in December of 2020.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 20.36
  • 100 free – 45.89
  • 100 breast – 56.32

The Navy will welcome Gaver to campus beginning in the 2021-2022 season. The team features a strong sprint program, where Gaver will likely be one of their top competitors. During the 2020-2021 season, he would have been the team’s fifth-fastest 50 freestyler. Sophomore Jospeh Evert and juniors Brendan Sullivan, Eli Williams, and Cal Aulizia posted the four fastest times this season.

Gaver’s times could also earn him the chance to swim in finals and score points for the 2020 Patriot League Champions. His 50 free time would have placed him in the A-final at the 2020 conference champs, while his 100 breast would have earned him a spot in the B-final.

Navy has had a successful recruiting class, already receiving commitments from Nate Sukeena, Thomas Morris, James Lyon, Conor Cranfield, Cohen Bruner, and Austin Lockhart for the class of 2025.
