Among those competing will be 2016 US Paralympian McKenzie Coan who will head into the meet as a 5-time Paralympic medalist and 6-time World Championship medalist. Coan won gold in Rio in the women’s S7 50 free, S7 100 free, S7 400 free, and 4×100 freestyle 34 point relay. She is entered this week to race the 3 events that she won gold in at the 2016 Games, as well as the 50 butterfly.
Another big name is 2012 and 2016 Paralympian Becca Meyers who will race the S12 100 freestyle, S12 100 butterfly, and S12 400 freestyle. Back in 2016, Meyers took gold in the women’s S13 100 fly, 200 IM, and 400 free along with a silver in the S13 100 freestyle.
Leanne Smith will take to the women’s SB3 50 breaststroke, S3 50 backstroke, and SM3 150 IM, hoping to earn a spot on the 2021 Paralympic squad. Smith had a successful showing 2 years ago at the 2019 World Paralympic Swimming Championships and took gold in the women’s SB3 50 breast, women’s S3 100 free, women’s SM4 150 medley, and a silver in the women’s S3 50 backstroke.
Racing will get underway with prelims at 9 am on Thursday, June 17, and finals at 5 pm.
For anyone who wants to see what a celebratory inclusive acceptance & honoring of Para Swimmers is like, check out the Amazon Prime feeds from the Aussie Trials just concluded today. They were amazing. So respectful! NBC take note how it’s done right. And Scooter & Ahmed are a trip!
Where can we find results?
Had to dig (sad to say) to find out we can watch too at this link: https://go.teamusa.org/3zwJayP
Also, can follow at https://www.facebook.com/U.S.ParalympicsSwimming
Much appreciated, thanks!
welcome
I can’t wait to watch Mallory Weggemann!!! After reading her book, I’m rooting for her all the way. LET’S GO USA!
I know a few swimmers in this.
When do the paralympics happen
I wish USA Swimming would include paralympians in Trials the way that Australia does.
Absolutely. They are so respectful of the entire team, para included. Check out Scooter & Ahmed for instance, Ellie Cole, etc.
I fear that NBC’s coverage might prove slightly sentimental.
What do you mean please?
Let’s go Becca!
