USA 9th in Women’s Synchro Springboard at 2015 World Champs (Video)

China’s team of Shi Tingmao and Wu Minxia took home gold in the women’s 3-meter Synchronized Springboard diving event to give China a sweep of the diving gold medals on the second day of the 2015 World Championships.

Shi and Wu dropped the hammer over the final three dives, scoring above 80 on all three. That was easily more than the rest of the field in all three rounds, and led to a total five-round score of 351.30, about 30 points ahead of silver.

That second-place medal went to Canada, which finished the day with a pair of silvers in diving. Jennifer Abel and Pamela Ware scored 319.47, including 72- and 73-pointers over the final three rounds.

And in a repeat of the finish order from the Mixed Synchro Platform event earlier in the day, Australia took bronze, with Samantha Mills and Esther Qin scoring 304.20, with big dives of 69 points apiece in rounds 3 and 5.

Also scoring over 300 were Ukraine and Italy, which took fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Americans took 9th, an improvement on the 13th place finish in the Mixed Synchro Platform event. That team was Abby Johnston and Laura Ryan.
