March 12, 2020 – With the safety of its members a top priority, it is with disappointment that USA Artistic Swimming announces today the cancellation of the 2020 Collegiate National Championship and postponement of the 2020 Senior, Junior and 13-15 National Championship events.
USA Artistic Swimming is already investigating the options to reschedule the Senior, Junior and 13-15 National Championship, Senior National Team Trials and 13-15/12 & Under National Team Trials however, with the growing number of college campus shutdowns, the opportunity to host the collegiate event in the Spring is unrealistic. USA Artistic Swimming CEO, Adam Andrasko said he recognizes the burned this places on the sport, but the health and safety of our membership is much more important.
“It is not often that we as humans are all faced with the same difficult decision, but that is the case today,” Andrasko said “We urge all of you to make smart decisions over the coming weeks, protect yourselves and your families. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
With the cancellation of the 2020 Collegiate National Championship, Andrasko added that he is saddened for the athletes, particularly the seniors, who have dedicated so much time to prepare for this event.
“We recognize how hard all the athletes work, and our hearts are with those seniors that will not have the opportunity to compete in this event one final time,” Andrasko said. “I know it is not enough, but thanks to each of you and congratulations. We hope that the experiences you have had, lessons you have learned and bonds you have built will last a lifetime and mean more than any award. We hope that this does not mark the end of your Artistic Swimming career. You always have a family at USA Artistic Swimming.”
USA Artistic Swimming would like to thank the City of Mesa, the Arizona Artistic Swimming Association, Team Solutions, TeamIP, Jolyn, ISS, MoodMatcher, USA Artistic Swimming Foundation and all our partners for their efforts and flexibility throughout this process. At this time, there are no details as to where or when the Senior, Junior and 13-15 National Championship may be held, but more information will be provided as it is made available.
