USA Deaf Swimming Announces Head Coach For The 24th World Summer Deaflympics

USA Deaf Swimming (USADS) selected Alexander Taylor as the head coach for Team USA for the 2022 World Summer Deaflympics.  Taylor is the head swimming coach at Misericordia University in Dallas, PA. Previously, Taylor coached at Alfred University in Alfred, NY, Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD, and the Longhorn Swim Camp in Austin, TX.  As an athlete, Taylor was a 4-year athlete and 2-year captain at SUNY Potsdam. Taylor was inducted into Potsdam’s Hall of Fame in 2021.

The 24th World Summer Deaflympics will be held in Caxias Do Sul, Brazil from May 1-15, 2022, where 6,000 deaf athletes from nearly 100 countries will compete in 20 sports.

USADS serves to promote swimming among the deaf community and sponsor Team USA for international deaf competition.  USADS is a 501c3 and relies on donations and sponsors to support their programs and Team USA.

Supplemental information about Coach Taylor:

Taylor is currently in his third year at Misericordia.  Under his guidance, the cougars have established 108 personal best performances, established 9 new school records, 5 MU pool records, & mentored one NCAA All-American.  In February 2020 Taylor was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Women’s Coach of the Year. In addition to his responsibilities as the head coach, Taylor is also the aquatics director.  He is responsible for all aquatic programs, including a learn-to-swim program specifically for children with autism.

Prior to MU, Taylor served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for division 1 Mount Saint Mary’s University.  Taylor assisted in founding the men’s team and integrating it with the previously established women’s program.  During his 3 years at The Mount, the mountaineer squad grew from 33 to 55 student-athletes, established numerous school records, and qualified 9 athletes for the national invitational championship.

Taylor started his coaching career at Alfred University, where he served as an assistant coach for three seasons.  During his time at AU, Taylor earned his master’s degree in Literacy Education with a focus in special education.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Taylor has experience at the University of Texas with the Longhorn Swim Camp (LSC).  During his time with the LSC, Taylor worked alongside legendary coaches Eddie Reese & Carol Capitani, as well as numerous Olympians including Ian Crocker, Josh Davis, Whitney Hedgepeth and Jimmy Feigen.

As an athlete, Taylor was a 4-year athlete and 2-year captain at SUNY Potsdam.  He was a 4x SUNYAC champion, 7x school record holder, and was the 2012 SUNYAC Swimmer of the Meet.  Taylor was inducted into Potsdam’s Hall of Fame in 2021.
