USA Deaf Swimming has put out a call to identify talented swimmers who are interested in representing the United States at the 2017 Deaflympics. The Games will take place this summer in Samsun, Turkey from July 18th to July 30th, 2017. The team will be selected based on who has the fastest qualifying times.
Among the swimmers already committed to the team is Deaf World Record holder Matthew Klotz. A swimmer for the LSU Tigers, Klotz has broken multiple Deaf World Records throughout his career. On the way to one of those Deaf World Records, the 100 meter backstroke, Klotz posted a time that qualified him for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. He was also a Trials qualifier in the 200 back.
USA Deaf Swimming suspects that there are other hard of hearing swimmers out there who haven’t yet been identified by the organization. They ask that deaf and hard of hearing swimmers reach out if they are interested in this opportunity.
