USA Swimming announces 2014-2015 Junior National Team, led by 6 from Nation’s Capital Swim Club

USA Swimming has officially released its Junior National Team for the upcoming 2014-2015 season.

The National Team is selected based on the six fastest times in each Olympic event at all USA Swimming or FINA-sanctioned meets from January through August of 2014, plus YMCA Long Course Nationals. The list only includes times done in prelims, A, B or C finals, meaning no relay splits or leadoffs, time trials, swim-offs or mid-race splits (for example, splitting a fast 400 while opening an 800 free).

To be eligible, swimmers must be 18 or younger as of September 1, 2014.

In addition, all athletes on the U.S. Junior Pan Pacs team are automatically selected for the Junior National team, which is why some events have 7 or more swimmers instead of 6. Also, athletes on the Senior National team are not eligible for this team, which eliminates names like Katie Ledecky, among others. The only exception is for athletes on that Junior Pan Pacs team – they can be on both the junior and senior national teams because of their representation of the U.S. at Junior Pan Pacs.

You can find the full list, per USA Swimming, here.

It’s been a great year for Nation’s Capital Swim Club out of Virginia and the surrounding states. NCAP put 6 different swimmers on the team, led by dual Senior/Junior National teamer Andrew Seliskar, who made the team in the 100 and 200 fly, 200 and 400 IM plus the 200 free. Also in for NCAP are Cassidy Bayer, Isabella Rongione, James Jones, Megan Byrnes and Carsten Vissering.

Several other clubs put multiple swimmers on the team. By our count, Carmel Swim Club (Amy Bilquist, Veronica Burchill and Claire Adams), Dynamo (Kylie Stewart, Knox Auerbach and Michael Taylor), Y-Spartaquatics (Danielle Galyer, Savannah Faulconer and Katrina Konopka), Palo Alto (Curtis Ogren, Ally Howe and Andrew Liang) and Nitro (Sean Grieshop, Tate Jackson and Taylor Abbott) all qualified a trio of swimmers each.

USA swimming should hire Bobo Gigi as a consultant with final write off on rosters. Dude is the Rain Man of swimming.

In three events- women’s 200 back, men’s 1500 and men’s 100 breast there are more than 6 names listed without a tie. Any reason for that?

Great stuff, Bobo. Why include 50s of stroke for 13-18 girls but not boys?

Isn’t Mitch D’Arrigo an Italian? As with the Canadian mentioned in other comments, he should therefor be ineligible for the uS team?

Thanks for your effort in typing all that info out for us! You forgot to mention that both Andrew Seliskar and Katie McLaughtin’s 200 fly times are new Junior World Records.

Is Anastasiya Malyavina a US citizen or just a US Swimming member like Joseph Schooling and Mitch D’Arrigo? She has an amazing 200 breast time!

Don’t forget Nitro – the Austin, Texas team has a trio on the roster too. Grieshop qualifying with three events, Jackson with one and Abbott in the OW group.

About Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson swam for nearly twenty years. Then, Jared Anderson stopped swimming and started writing about swimming. He's not sick of swimming yet. Swimming might be sick of him, though. Jared was a YMCA and high school swimmer in northern Minnesota, and spent his college years swimming breaststroke and occasionally pretending …
