Though USA-Swimming is pretty-well settled on their roster for the 2011 World University Games, which are to be held in Shenzen, China beginning in August, they had yet to announce the entries for the non-Olympic events until this week. These swimmers were pulled from the pool of participants who were already entered in the meet, and were pretty predictable (100 strokers swim the 50’s, distance swimmers swim the alternate distance events). The US has also added Michael Klueh to their lineup for the 1500 free, a spot which was vacated when Sean Ryan and Andre Gemmell were both called up to the World Championship squad for open water swimming. Click here for the full rosters.
This is a great opportunity for some of these college swimmers who rarely get to swim these events, especially in long course.

Open Water
USA Swimming has also announced the open water swimmers for the World University Games, that will have only one open water race – the 10k. These names aren’t always as familiar, because these swimmers are open water specialists and therefore don’t necessarily make a big impact in college.
Tristin Baxter is a sophomore at Arizona State, who failed to qualify for NCAA’s though she placed 7th in the mile at NCAA’s. Dimaris Iriondo will begin her freshman season at Princeton in the fall.
On the men’s side, the names are a little more familiar. Ryan Feeley just finished his sophomore year at Michigan, where he placed 9th in the 500 free and 16th in the mile individually. Connor Signorin just finished his freshman season at Florida, where he earned one SEC Freshman of the Week award in January.
10km Open Water
Men – Connor Signorin (Florida), Ryan Feeley (Michigan)
Women – Tristin Baxter (Arizona State), Dimaris Iriondo (Princeton)
I checked yesterday although the links don’t seem to be working today. They have a lot of people listed as swimming the 4×100 relay that are not (Kleuh for example).
I was just wondering how a high school senior got on the roster ahead of other more qualified (faster) swimmers.
Where did you see her listed for the 100 free? That really doesn’t makes sense. I had thought the rosters were set and substitutions had to be made within the team.
If you click on the athlete’s name, it shows you their entries, though I wouldn’t trust the accuracy of it much (“Cody Chitwood”). For what it’s worth, this change could have been submitted with the original roster, and just not updated on the USA Swimming website. The final roster they put out on July 15th didn’t include all of the changes, afterall.
How does it work when their is a substitution. Looks like
KAITLIN PAWLOWICZ is on athlete list for the US.and I think she is Open Water. Good but their are quite a few faster

She’s listed as being entered in the 100 free….but that would give the Americans too many entries in that race. Looks like maybe Megan Romano stayed home? According to that list, she’s not on a relay…
ANOTHER competition in China??
Is everyone else bankrupt?
They seem to be hosting everything these days.
Well, good luck to our swimmers.
I know who I will be rooting for in the 50breast! I thougth Annie Chandler made the Worlds team.. she was called out after Nationals last year.. Didnt she go to Pan Pac’s
Maybe Clark? ;-).
