2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships
- August 21-24, 2024
- Canberra, Australia
- LCM (50 meters)
- U.S. Selection Criteria
USA Swimming has announced the 38 swimmers who will represent the Stars and Stripes at the 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, which will be held August 21-24 in Canberra, Australia.
The roster was selected based on the results of the U.S. Olympic Trials, which concluded on June 23 in Indianapolis.
Headlining the roster is Sandpipers of Nevada’s Luke Ellis and Team Greenville’s Lilla Bognar, who both qualified to swim three individual events at the championships.
Ellis placed 5th in the men’s 1500 free at the Trials in a personal best of 15:06.71, and he also posted the 5th-fatsest time in the prelims of the 800 free (7:54.26) before scratching the final. He also qualified for Junior Pan Pacs in the 400 IM, where he placed 14th in Indy in a PB of 4:19.94.
Bognar had a standout performance in the women’s 400 IM, placing 3rd in 4:37.86 to dispatch her previous best time by three seconds. She was also 7th in the 200 IM, setting a PB of 2:12.33 in the semis, and also qualified for Junior Pan Pacs in the 200 back after finishing 9th overall at Trials in 2:09.51.
Audrey Derivaux, the 14-year-old who made headlines at the Trials after she qualified for the final of the women’s 400 IM, will make her international debut in Canberra, having landed a spot on the U.S. team in the 400 IM and the 200 fly.
Another notable youngster on the team is Luka Mijatovic, the 15-year-old standout who has been rewriting the boys’ National Age Group Records in the distance freestyle events. Mijatovic will race the 200 and 400 free at Junior Pan Pacs.
Swimmers who won gold at the 2023 World Junior Championships who will be competing in the Australian capital include Kayla Han, Teagan O’Dell, Leah Shackley and Norvin Clontz. Han was also the silver medalist in the girls’ 400 IM at the last edition of the Junior Pan Pacs in 2022.
“Being able to represent the U.S. internationally provides an incredible opportunity to these athletes, coaches, and the pipeline of USA Swimming,” said USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Lindsay Mintenko.
“These athletes had impressive performances at Olympic Trials last month, and we look forward to watching them represent themselves, their clubs, and USA Swimming in Australia in August.”
The girls’ roster also features Madi Mintenko and Erika Pelaez, who both won four medals at the 2023 World Juniors.

At the 2022 Junior Pan Pacs in Honolulu, the U.S. dominated the medal table with 19 gold and 46 total medals.
Will there be any live streaming opportunities, whether organized by an international or us organization?
Shackell fam traveling a lot: Indy—->Paris—->Canberra
amazing
Are there any family contributions required ($$$) when US swimmers go to such meets or everything is covered by USA Swimming?
Everything is covered for the athletes.
Article fails to mention that at Jr Pan Pacs swimmers can enter any event, not just the ones for which they were selected. At the meet, only the top two from any one country can swim in the A final, others are relegated to the B final.
Lol erika pelaez just posted on instagram and her caption is time to bring the cowbell to australia
Customs has cowbells listed as not allowed. Sorry …
lmao its not on the actual customs website troll
It’s a screenshot from the Australian Border Force website. 🙄
Cowbell is just an app on the iPhone so everyone can have cowbell on demand
Congrats Rowan!
Freedom incoming 🦅🦅🦅🦅
No Maximus Williamson?
He would’ve qualified so likely declined his spot
Becomes a tough decision for some student-athletes because of the academic year. First day of classes at Keller High are August 14th.
Almost all the swimmers I can see that would’ve qualified but appear to have declined are HS seniors heading to college – Nesty, Sauickie, Enge, Winkler, and Perecinsky. The only one that isn’t a senior that appears to have declined is Williamson – and as you stated his school year starts before the meet starts.
And maybe Sean Green.
Right, Green is a rising senior as well, missed him
Or Sean Green?
