COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Juan Caraveo, a 15-year swim coach and educator, has joined the USA Swimming staff as sports diversity and inclusion consultant to help expand swimming participation in multicultural populations.
Caraveo’s focus will be to work with USA Swimming clubs, coaches and athletes to bring new members into the sport. He will also assist clubs to implement and enhance the impact of their diversity and inclusion programs.
“Juan is going to be an incredible asset for our membership, bringing his personal background and extensive experiences with athletes, parents and coaches,” USA Swimming Club Development Managing Director Pat Hogan said. “With 15 years as a coach in a diverse community, he understands club dynamics and what resources are necessary for clubs to be effective in inviting all populations into our sport.”
Caraveo will be heavily involved in the organization’s National and Zone Select Diversity Camps, which are multiple-day programs that include pool training, motivational and education sessions and team-building activities. He will also conduct and participate in athlete clinics, coach education and dry-side presentations to parents and team leaders.
“Swimming is an incredibly fun sport that provides skills, lessons and opportunities for life,” Caraveo said. “I look forward to collaborating with our talented network to overcome the barriers and increase participation from those in underserved populations.”
Bilingual and a Level 3 Life Member of the American Swim Coaches Association, Caraveo joins USA Swimming after serving as owner of Synergy Aquatics in Pearland, Texas. His 15-year coaching career included head coach positions at Pearland Aquatics, Pearland Pirates and Dickinson ISD. He was also the owner and coach of the Pearland Swim Academy.
Learning to swim at six months old, Caraveo participated in his first swim competition at six years old. He continued in the sport in high school and through graduation from Austin College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education.
Juan is a class act, and a great guy. Great hire.
Good luck my friend.
