USA Swimming has released their version of the timeline on the investigation of Rick Curl, who less than an hour ago was announced to be on the list of permanently banned individuals.
This timeline includes new information about the permanent ban, including that Mr. Curl on Tuesday is “voluntarily and permanently relinquishing his USA Swimming membership.”
The newest timeline appears to be chronologically much more in-line with what we’ve heard from the side of the accusing victim, Kelley Currin and her attorney Bob Allard, including acknowledgement of receipt of the complaint and location of Ms. Currin in April. USA Swimming has previously addressed the time between April and July in this statement, saying that her initial attorney agreed that filing the complaint might not be in Ms. Currin’s best interest. The latest timeline does not include any information on when Ms. Currin decided against filing a complaint, and then changed her mind and decided to move forward.

According to our sources (and they are lock solid), Curl has already been picked up.
Rick Curl was arrested today for transporting a minor across state lines for sex. Charges are also coming from Virginia and Maryland state court.
Splash – we saw the same article you did, I think, and have been on the phone all day trying to confirm, but have been unable to get anyone in either state to back that claim up. No warrant has been issued that anyone can find in their system, and none of the state agencies will confirm that the warrant has been issued. That could mean it’s just not in the system yet, but we’re going to keep working the leads.
We’ll follow up if we can find anything to confirm.
Could not agree more with Mom Of A Swimmer. I’ve heard the same things about this for years. I had heard this on a few occasions from different people that I had come in contact with over the years. Most of who were very reliable and had nothing to gain by discrediting his reputation to me.
Many of those people also said that the victim then Kelley Davies (her median name) was ‘poached’ or stolen from a rival team. The Curl Burk Swim Club has a very well known reputation for recruiting the best swimmers from their rival’s teams. While this practice may not be illegal it is at the very least ethically questionable to initiate contact with another… Read more »
Agree with the Mike Winn comments. I once knew him and I don’t believe he ever told the truth. He would say he would be somewhere, never show up and never apologize.
This whole situation makes me sick. This was well known in Potomac Valley as well as to members of US swimming for many, many years. Until US Swimming is ready to clean house – really and truly get rid of those who had any knowledge – think of what Penn State did, the organization will always be under suspicion. And more and more of these reports will continue to arise.
Only today another Curl Burke coach was indicted (Noah Rucker) – and are we supposed to believe Pete Morgan really had no knowledge of this or Rick Curl’s activities? Curl Burke/CUBU/NCAPs needs to clean house as much as US Swimming – until then, they should be prohibited from participating… Read more »
That’s the thing that really kills me about this whole thing, that everyone talks about how well known this was – USA Swimming takes a year to locate Kelly Currin.
Another USA Swimming lie… They knew that Kelly Currin lived in the Dallas, Texas area as early as December 5, 2011. We wrote an article about Curl being investigated on our website (www.usswimnscandal.com) on December 8, 2011. We got a tip that USA Swimming’s private investigator, Paulette Brundage, was calling around asking about Curl and obtained her cell phone number from one of our sources. So we decided to investigate the investigator. A member of our group called Brundage from a Washington DC area phone number and identified herself as a friend and former teammate of Kelly Currin. The conversation with Brundage was taped and we extracted information from her that USA Swimming was investigating Curl and they were having… Read more »
Yea, what about Eddie Reese? Why isn’t he being implicated and red flagged in this so called ‘cover-up’ with the rest of the world? Wasn’t he sitting in a Christian Athletes’ meeting back in the late 80’s when Kelley told all of her abuse? I do recall reading that. Eddie did coach Kelley’s husband. Where is her husband in all of this?
So you want to punish the swimmers who work hard day in and day out because of something someone did almost 30 years ago, when none of them were even alive?!?! Really? No matter where your kids swim or what sport they play, society is always going to run into people like this. It’s certainly not fair to punish the current NCAP swimmers and their coaches that work so incredibly hard to get to where they are at and where they want to be. Rick hasn’t even coached in almost 10 years; what does that have to do with the swimmers now?!?! Don’t punish these athletes for the likes of two men (Curl and Rucker) that can’t get it together.… Read more »
