Irvine, CA – February 8 – USA Water Polo is pleased to announce the addition of Max Irving and Lolo Silver to the USA Water Polo Board of Directors as athlete members. The two are no strangers to Team USA having capped up for the National Team at international events around the globe. Irving is fresh off an appearance in his first Olympic Games in Tokyo last summer, while Silver retired in 2014 following a five year run with Team USA that included a World Cup crown among other accolades.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Max Irving and Lolo Van Der Linde (Silver) to the USA Water Polo Board of Directors, as Athlete Members. They will offer valuable insights on how to best support our USA National Teams and grow water polo across the United States,” said Bill Smith, USA Water Polo Board Chairman.
Tokyo Olympian Max Irving has been a key piece of the USA Water Polo Men’s National Team since 2017, helping the squad earn gold at the 2019 Pan American Games and silver at the 2021 FINA World League Super Final. An All-American during his collegiate days at UCLA, Irving led the Bruins to NCAA Championships in 2015 & 2017.
On the club scene Irving caps up domestically for the New York Athletic Club while playing for top teams abroad. He is currently a member of the Telimar club in Italy. Previously he competed in LEN Champions League play with the Greece-based Olympiacos club where the group earned a Greek Super Cup title in 2020, Greek Championship in 2021 and a Greek National Cup as well.
Irving made his professional debut with Hydraikos, also based in Greece. A native of Long Beach, California, Irving competed for high school powerhouse Long Beach Wilson earning All-American and All-CIF status while winning a CIF-Division 2 title.
Lolo Van Der Linde (Silver) capped up for the USA Water Polo Women’s National Team for five years winning FINA World Cup and FINA World League titles while also competing in the FINA World Championships. The alternate for the 2012 Olympic Team, Van Der Linde retired from international play in 2014 but has remained active in club water polo competing for the New York Athletic Club and San Diego Shores.
A standout at Stanford, Van Der Linde scored 240 goals in her Cardinal career while earning All-American and All-MPSF honors on multiple occasions. She was also a finalist for the Cutino Award in 2008.
Since her international playing career concluded, Van Der Linde has transitioned to a career in customer success and account management. She is currently a Senior Manager, Enterprise Account Management Team at Checkr, a company that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to provide fair background checks for other companies in a faster, easier and more compliant manner. Prior to that Van Der Linde was a Senior Customer Success Manager and Team Lead at Zozi, a travel focused startup. Van Der Linde resides in Long Beach, CA with her husband Pat and daughter Sammy.
