USA Women Defeat Canada 11-8 On Day Two Of World League Super Final

Shanghai, China – June 8 – The USA Women’s National Team picked up their second straight win at the FINA World League Super Final defeating Canada 11-8 earlier today. Melissa Seidemann (Walnut Creek, CA/Stanford/NYAC) scored three goals while Sami Hill (Santa Barbara, CA/UCLA/Santa Barbara) celebrated her birthday in net with 12 saves. Team USA closes out pool play on Thursday when they take on Spain at 12:00am pt.

Team USA opened up a 4-2 lead after the first period and built an 8-5 lead at intermission. In the third quarter Canada outscored Team USA 2-1 to close within two goals at 9-7 going to the fourth. In the final eight minutes the United States was able to turn the tables outscoring Canada 2-1 to pull away for the 11-8 win.

The United States went 2/6 on power plays while Canada was 1/7 on power plays with neither side attempting a penalty shot. A day after scoring six goals in a win over Brazil, Maddie Musselman (Newport Beach, CA/Corona del Mar HS/CdM Aquatics) added two goals as did Courtney Mathewson (Anaheim Hills, CA/UCLA/NYAC). “It seems as though we were disinterested in playing the game today. Hopefully tomorrow we will come out a bit sharper,” said USA Head Coach Adam Krikorian.
