USA Women Open FINA Intercontinental Tournament With Win Over Brazil

Lewisville, TX – February 16 – The USA Women’s National Team got off to an excellent start at the FINA Women’s Intercontinental Tournament with a 17-2 victory over Brazil. Kiley Neushul (Goleta, CA/Stanford/Santa Barbara) scored a game high five goals in the win while Ashleigh Johnson (Miami, FL/Princeton/NYAC) stopped 13 shots in net. Team USA returns to play tomorrow against China at7:20pm cst. In other action on day one it was Australia beating China 12-10 and Canada over Japan 19-10. Brazil started off with a goal to get things going ahead 1-0 early on a tally from Marina Duarte. That would be as good as things got for Brazil as Team USA ran off four straight goals including two from Neushul to go up 4-1 early in the second period. Brazil countered with a goal to make it 4-2 before the United States rallied with a string of goals including two from Neushul and two more from Melissa Seidemann (Walnut Creek, CA/Stanford/NYAC) on the way to an 11-2 lead at halftime.

Team USA continued to pour it on in the second half scoring six more unanswered goals en route to the victory.
