USA Women Win Kunshan Cup With 18-9 Win Over The Netherlands

Kunshan, China – June 6 – The USA Women’s Senior National Team won gold at the 2015 Kunshan Cup with an 18-9 win over the Netherlands. It was the second straight victory over the Dutch this week for Team USA who finished the event undefeated at 4-0. Maggie Steffens (Danville, CA/Stanford/Diablo) and Makenzie Fischer (Laguna Beach, CA/Laguna Beach HS/SET) scored three goals each while Ashleigh Johnson (Miami, FL/Princeton/Miami Riptides) tallied 10 saves in net. Team USA now prepares for the FINA World League Super Final starting Tuesday in Shanghai. An official roster for Team USA at the FINA World League Super Final will be announced prior to the competition beginning.The high scoring match saw a host of goals in the first period as the United States took a 5-4 lead after the first eight minutes. Team USA kept up the offensive onslaught in the second period posting six goals to grab an 11-6 lead at intermission. In the third the red, white, and blue defense stepped up blanking the Netherlands while the offense scored twice to build a 13-6 advantage. In the fourth the Netherlands came back with three goals but the United States answered with five more goals to put the match away cruising to an 18-9 win.Team USA went 2/3 on power plays and 2/2 on penalty shots while the Netherlands went 5/9 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty.
