USA Women’s Water Polo Defeats Japan 17-4 At World League

The USA Women’s National Team picked up their second straight win at the FINA World League Super Final in dominant fashion as they defeated Japan 17-4. Nine different players found the back of the net for Team USA led by three goals from Alys Williams (Huntington Beach, CA/UCLA/HBWPC). Mia Rycraw (Walnut, CA/Arizona State/Sun Devil) did the job in net recording six saves and five steals. Team USA closes out group play on Thursday when they meet Russia at 1:20am pt. Team USA opened up a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and a 7-2 lead at halftime. They put the game away in the third quarter with a six goal effort to build a 13-3 advantage going to the final eight minutes. In the fourth quarter the United States added four more goals to win the match 17-4.

A day after failing to convert a single power play in a win over the Netherlands, Team USA was much better in the win over Japan going 8/13 on player advantages while Japan was just 1/3. Neither side attempted a penalty shot.
