Salt Lake City, Utah – The University of Southern California took on the University of Utah on Saturday, October 3, coming out victors of their first dual meet of the season. USC won with 138.5 points, with the Utes finishing with 112.5 points.
The meet started with the 200 yard medley relay, with USC grabbing first and second. Hannah Weiss, Riley Scott, Lucy Worrall, and Anika Apostalon from USC finished first (1:43.06), followed by their team mates Hanni Leach, Olivia Ontjes, Lily Dubroff, and Evan Swenson (1:45.43), just out-touching the team of Megan Kawaguchi, Stina Colleou, Petra Soininen, and Gillian St. John from Utah, who came in third with the time of 1:45.71.
The Trojans snagged first and second again in the 1000 yard freestyle with Allie Wooden, who came in first (10:13.90), and Elizabeth Stinson, who came in second (10:16.01), followed by Jordan Anderson from Utah, who came in third with the time of 10:28.20.
In the 200 yard freestyle, USC came in first and second with Chelsea Chenault (1:51.22) and Hanni Leach (1:54.35), out-touching Hailey Pabst from Utah, who came in third with the time of 1.55.00.
Hannah Weiss and Anika Apostalon came in first and second respectively in the 100 yard backstroke from USC, with times of 55.00 and 55.18, making it a close race between team mates. The Utes snagged third again with Megan Kawaguchi touching at the time of 57.69.
In the 100 yard breaststroke, Riley Scott, a freshman from USC, came in first with the time of 1:02.80, falling only .31 seconds short of the NCAA Division 1 ‘B’ cut, followed by Stina Colleou from Utah, who came in second (1:04.67), and Genevieve Robertson, who came in third (1:05.27).
Madison Wright, another freshmen from USC, came in first in the 200 yard butterfly, with the time of 2:01.78, followed by Utes’ Isabella Kearns, with the time of 2:06.95, just out-touching Lucy Worrall from USC, who came in third (2:06.99).
The Trojans grabbed first and second again in the 50 yard freestyle, with Evan Swenson coming in first (24.05) and freshmen Victoria Toris coming in second (24.27). Junior Rhianna Williams, returning dual athlete in both track and swim, came in third with the time of 24.39, just being out-touched by Toris.
In the 100 yard freestyle, junior Anika Apostalon, coming only .82 seconds aways from the NCAA ‘B’ cut, and freshmen Victoria Toris came in first and second, with the times of 50.81 and 53.03. Utah’s Dorien Butter came in third in this event with the time of 53.08, making it a tough race for Toris, who just finished the 50 free before hand.
Freshmen Hanni Leach grabs first in the 200 yard backstroke with the time of 2:03.46, followed by her team mate, freahsmen Destiny Nelson, who touched at 2:05.22, while Katie Christy from USC secures third in the event with the time of 2:06.19.
Riley Scott from USC wins another event of the night during the 200 yard breaststroke with the time of 2:17.69, followed by Stina Colleou from Utah (2:20.39) and Colleou’s team mate Genevieve Robertson (2:21.59).
By the 500 yard freestyle, the Trojans started to exhibition their events. Freshmen Jordan Anderson hit the time of 5:03.98, followed by team mate Kat Wickham (5:19.37), and Maryssa McArthur (5:26.87).
In the 100 yard butterfly, team mates Jenna Marsh and Petra Soininen from Utah competed in a close race. Marsh finished first with the time of 57.54 and Soininen finished second with the time of 57.63. Sydney Bull from Utah also competed in the event and finished with the time of 1:00.04.
During the 200 yard IM, Brianna Francis from Utah finished with the time of 2:07.97, followed by her team mates Jordan Anderson (2:09.17), and Isabella Kearns (2:14.15).
The meet ended with the 400 yard freestyle relay. Utah’s team of Gillian St. John, Dorien Butter, Darby Wayner, and Rhianna Williams finished with the time of 3:33.29 and Utah’s team of Jenna Marsh, Julienne Tadena, Hailey Pabst, and Maryssa McArthur finished with the time of 3:38.71.
