It was mostly the same cast of characters as the previous day that put the Trojans at the top of 10 events, this time against UC Santa Barbara. What would have been a Pac-12 dual meet last year was just a scrimmage now that the Gauchos have moved over to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. USC came away with a 152-107 victory.

The Trojans got things started with a 1:30.04 win in the 200 medley relay featuring Luca Spinazzola (22.83), Morten Klarskov (25.76), Dylan Carter (21.11), and Santo Condorelli (20.34). UCS’s “B” relay was second; UCSB finished third.

For the second day in a row USC’s Pawel Furtek won both the 1000 and the 500 free. Furtek and teammate Ted Singley led the field in the 1000 with a 9:12.25-9:23.04 finish, then Furtek and Trojan Jason O’Brien went 1-2 in the 500 with 4:32.62 and 4:38.84. UCSB’s Andrew Barmann was third in both races (9:31.85, 4:39.11).

Reed Malone of USC won a close 200 free in 1:40.10 ahead of Santa Barbara’s Wade Allen (1:40.75) and Trojan Michael Domagala (1:41.30). USC’s Cary Wright (49.61) and Spinazzola (50.06) finished first in the 100 back, with UCSB’s Billy Mullis (52.35) the fastest of the Gauchos.

Steven Stumph and Jonah Hu of USC went 1-3 in the 100 breast, touching in 56.98 and 58.92, respectively. Santa Barbara’s Andy Castilleja took second in 57.90. UCSB got its first event win with a 1:48.06 effort in the 200 fly from Mickey Mowry. Gaucho teammate Chris Nolan (1:51.09) was third, just behind USC’s Dakota Hodgson (1:50.98).

USC won both sprint freestyles: Carter (20.88) in the 50; Condorelli (44.59) in the 100. Maclin Davis of USC took second in the 50 with 21.25, while Chase Lemley (21.43) led a quartet of Gauchos coming in just behind. In the 100, Allen of Santa Barbara beat David Morgan of USC by .01 to claim second, 45.89 to 45.90.

The Trojans swept the 200 back with Ralf Tribuntsov (1:49.18), Chad Bobrosky (1:51.77), and Jonathan Knox (1:52.69). Finishing just after winner Klarskov’s 2:01.83 in the 200 breast were Castilleja and Hu, both with 2:05.50, and USC’s Ridge Altman with 2:05.60.

Santa Barbara’s second individual title went to Yoessef Tibazi, who posted a 49.01 in the 100 fly. USC’s Davis (49.28) finished second; UCSB’s Mowry, third. UCSB, led by Gabe Bolender (4:14.97), took all the points in the 400 IM, but the three fastest times belonged to exhibitioning Trojans Wright (4:02.67), Stumph (4:06.93), and Scott Clausen (4:07.81).

UCSB got the 400 free relay points with Lemley (46.42), Kevin Moore (46.46), Lukas Paulauskas (46.40), and Allen (45.01) combining for 3:04.29. The USC exhibition relay of Morgan (46.79), Condorelli (44.55), Carter (44.70), and Tribuntsov (44.82) logged a 3:00.86.
