According to OCVarsity.com, Dave Salo and USC have added another verbal commitment to a class that is easily one of the three-best in the country, and on depth might challenge Cal and Georgia for the top spot.
The latest verbal is Brianna Weinstein out of Irvine High and the Irvine Novaquatics program. Her breaststroke bests are 1:03.5/2:17.3, which on their surface don’t immediately leap off the page. Weinstein, however, has been making big drops after plateauing a bit during her freshman year. For example, when she was a sophomore, she was going 1:05.2’s in the 100. Working with USC’s breaststroke group, one might imagine that this trend will continue when she arrives on the Los Angeles campus.
She falls high on the list of “sleepers” in this year’s senior class, meaning that she could breakout into a career that far outweighs her recruiting rankings.
Weinstein is also a very good IM’er with bests of 2:03.1 and 4:22..9. She’s also got Olympic Trials cuts, in long course, in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.3) and 400 IM (4:52.6).
She joins a class that includes huge recruits Jasmine Tosky, Kendyl Stewart, Nikki Chang, Henriette Stenkvist, and Princeton transfer Andrea Kropp.
