Three-time NCAA champion and USC’s all-time top scorer Kostas Genidounias became just the third Trojan to win an Olympic medal as he helped Greece take silver for his nation’s first-ever Olympic men’s water polo medal. In the Olympic final for the first time in history, Greece fell 13-10 to defending Olympic champion Serbia.
Now a two-time Olympian, Genidounias scored 17 goals in these 2020 Tokyo Games. He is the first USC men’s water polo medalist since J.W. Krumpholz earned silver with Team USA in 2008. He was one of six Trojans competing in these 2020 Games, marking the most USC men in an Olympics since seven played in the 1956 Games.
As a Trojan, Genidounias won three consecutive NCAA championships and broke USC’s all-time career scoring record — a spot the 2014 Peter J. Cutino Award winner still holds with his 261 goals scored from 2011-14 at USC.
