SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women’s swimming team will host USC this Saturday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. MT in the Ute Natatorium.
“We are always excited to welcome a Pac-12 opponent to Salt Lake City and it will be great to have the opportunity to measure ourselves against one of the best teams in the NCAAthis Saturday with the USC women,” said Utah head coach Joe Dykstra. “We are a little beat up right now in terms of injury and illness, but that is pretty common for all teams this time of year in our sport. We just need to decide to race hard no matter the circumstance or opponent. I am really excited to watch our freshmen women in their first real dual meet action as well.”
SCOUTING THE UTES
The Utah women’s swim and dive team finished sixth at the Pac-12 Championships, tallying a total of 652 points.
The women’s squad is led by junior Stina Colleou and sophomore Maddie Mesiel.
At the 2015 NCAA Championships, Colleou took 40th place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.21 and 26th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:10.82.
Both athletes finished in the top-10 at the Pac-12 Championships. Colleou took sixth in the 200 breast with a time of 2:10.61 and eighth in the 100 breast (1:01.31). Meisel finished seventh overall in the 1,650 free with a time of 16:31.41.
Amanda Casillas will lead the Utes diving effort this year. She finished 11th in the platform with 473.50 total points at the NCAA Zone E Championships. At the Pac-12 Championships, Casillas took 10th in the one-meter diver with 271.40 points. There have been four new divers added this season.
The Utes welcomed eleven new members, ten of them being freshman.
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST USC
The Utes last saw USC in Jan. 2014 in Los Angeles, Cailf. at the McDonald’s Stadium. The Utes fell to the Trojans, 119-91.
Colleou took first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:17.02.
USC is currently ranked No. 12 heading into the 2015-16 season according the College Swimming Association of American (CSCAA) last poll, which was released back on February 16, 2015.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Utes will host their annual Alumni meet on Oct. 10 at 9:30 a.m. MT. The team will then travel on Oct.15 to Berkeley, Calif. where they will take on Cal at 5 p.m. PT.
