The hazing lawsuit between former University of Virginia swimming teammates is set to go to trial next fall, per Charlottesville, Virginia’s newspaper The Daily Progress.
Former Virginia swimmer Anthony Marcantonio filed the suit earlier this year, alleging that five of his former teammates engaged in hazing activities that included assault and false imprisonment. Marcantonio was a freshman on the team last year, but has since transferred to Northwestern to continue his career.
Several of the five defendants have also transferred to different schools – Luke Papendick and Kyle Dudzinski will compete for Michigan. Also named in the suit were Charlie Rommel, David Ingraham and Jacob Pearce. All five were suspended for a length of time during the 2014-2015 season.
According to The Daily Progress, representatives from both sides met in court this week to select a court date. Marcantonio’s camp were looking for a trial in early 2016 (January or March), while the five defendants pushed for a later trial, in summer or fall of 2016.
That’s what the court eventually went with, slating in the trial for next fall. It will take place over five days in September, from the 19th through the 23rd in Charlottesville, VA.
seems to me none of the parties involved are too concerned if they keep pushing the trial date back. must not have been that big an issue.
